"Summer in EG" is an occasional series featuring quintessential summer scenes.
Harley Benton, of Warwick, was looking for fish in Greenwich Cove Saturday afternoon – for bait. He and a friend were at the EG boat launch hoping to catch mummichogs to use in fishing for flounder.
"Mummies" are small fish plentiful in Greenwich Cove. Benton pointed out the miniature fish, but said they were looking for mummies in the 3-inch range. They were using mummie traps, cylindrical wire traps filled with pieces of Italian bread. Each end of the trap has a small opening for the mummies.
And where was Benton going to fish for flounder? Under the Newport Bridge, Green Hill, a few different spots.
