Westminster's 'Sharing Locker' Helps Hundreds

Once a month, Westminster Unitarian Church opens its doors to give out paper products, pet food and other items not available through food stamps or food banks.

Once a month, the Westminster Unitarian Church opens the Sharing Locker for residents from East Greenwich and surrounding communities, to provide paper goods, pet food, and toiletries – all items not covered by food stamps or provided through food pantries.

For one Coventry resident who's been coming for the past year, the Sharing Locker has helped see her and her daughter through tough times. When she first came to the Sharing Locker, she was unemployed. Then, she got a part time job. Now, she has full-time work. She remains grateful for the items she can get through the Sharing Locker and for the kindness of those who staff the Sharing Locker.

According to Liz Jones, one of the Sharing Locker volunteers, they have been seeing close to 300 people a month.

If you are interested in donating to the Sharing Locker, cash or these items are needed:
• Body Lotion
• Deodorant (men/women)
• Shampoo (16 oz or less)
• Razors
• Liquid Dish Detergent (16 oz or less)
• SOS pads

• Toilet Paper

• Dry Pet Food (dog/cat)
