Local Girl Plays Marta In Theatre By Sea's 'Sound Of Music'

Jacqueline DePetro's biggest production before getting this part was last year's "Aladdin" at Meadowbrook Farms.

Jacqueline DePetro used to be a morning person. Not any more. These days, the 9-year-old regularly sleeps until 11 a.m. But she's got good reason. As Marta in Theatre By The Sea's production of The Sound of Music, Jacqueline doesn't get home on show nights until midnight.

It's been a different kind of summer for the soon-to-be Hanaford fourth grader. For instance, she's got a whole bunch of new friends – several of them Broadway veterans!

"Everybody's just become a family," Jacqueline said earlier this week. "It's just so amazing!"

The hardest part of being in the play is the costume changes. "It's very stressful," she said. "You have to get everything off and then get everything on and get on stage and do it again."

The pajamas are her favorite costume. And her favorite song? The Lonely Goatherd.

The play's run ends this weekend, with Jacqueline's last performance Friday night. After that, the summer will settle into a more typical routine for Jacqueline: trips to the , cheerleading camp in August, and maybe getting up before 11!
