Land Trust ‘Autumn Celebration’ At Boesch Farm Saturday

The weather Saturday, Sept. 22, looks great for the Municipal Land Trust’s “Celebration of Autumn,” a day of cleanup and a shared meal at Boesch Farm.

For those who’ve never been to the farm, this would be a great introduction. For old hands, it’s just another excuse to spend time in perhaps the prettiest spot in East Greenwich.

Walking trails circle the farm, which is now the home of Pat’s Pastured, a pasture-fed animal farm run by Patrick McNiff. This is the farm of your young imagination.

It’s been a very busy year for McNiff, who moved in last fall after running his business from a property on Jamestown.

“Not only the field stuff but getting the house so it’s liveable,” he said. “We’ve filled three 30-yard dumpsters of trash.”

The house has needed a variety of fixes and renovations, including new windows, new flooring in a bathroom, even a new hot water heater. Repairs on the house continue to be made and the .

McNiff said Thursday that hundreds of people visit the farm monthly, whether to enjoy the walking trails, say "hi" to the animals, volunteer, or shop at the farm store (open Tuesdays and Saturdays). Looking forward, he said, “my plan is still to offer workshops and do activities.”

On Saturday, the “celebration” takes place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Supplies will be provided but feel free to bring your own tools like gloves, rakes, clippers and garbage bags. And lunch will be provided (Pat’s Pastured hot dogs, of course!) for all volunteers.
