Bakery For Main St., Pizza Near Frenchtown

Meanwhile, West Marine – between Dave's and the Savory Grape – decamps for Warwick.

When we've asked what people would like to see on Main Street, inevitably a few people will say a bakery, a place where you could buy a fresh baked loaf of bread.

Wish answered.

Signs on the former Symposium Books shop herald the coming of Palmieri's Bakerythat Palmieri's, of Federal Hill fame. A peak through the window shows there's still plenty of work to be done, but you can bet we will be following their progress.

Meanwhile, on South County Trail just south of Frenchtown Road, pizza returns after a several-month hiatus. Pizza Heaven, 2554 So. County Trail, opened three weeks ago in the place formerly occupied by Island Pizza and, before that, Pizza Socrates.

Owner Chris Dolos, a science teacher at Narragansett Pier Middle School by day, says what makes his pizza special is a variety of things, in particular, the use of nonbromated flour and the availability of gluten-free crusts, vegan cheese, and turkey pepperoni.

Pizza Heaven is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., 11 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays. The phone number is 885-6800.

One closing to report – West Marine has closed its store at 1000 Division Street (between Dave's and the Savory Grape) and relocated to 399 Bald Hill Road (across from Warwick Mall).
