Crosby's Cafe is Open on Main Street

The former Village Cafe is no longer an empty spot on Main Street, thanks to restaurateur James Crosby, who has taken it over and opened the all-new Crosby's Cafe.

A new sign was supposed to be ready for Friday night but "as you know, things don't always work out as you expect," Crosby said in a telephone interview while "up to my elbows" in prep work as he readied for dinner service.

Getting the place ready took a lot of work, Crosby said, including on the legal end as he cleared up issues with the Secretary of State's office and obtained a victualing license from the town. And like many people opening a new restaurant, things ended up a few weeks behind schedule.

But this week, the door finally opened to Crosby's Cafe at 431 Main St. and Crosby said he's excited to be on Main Street in East Greenwich and can't wait for the warmer weather when people will be dining on the patio.

"This isn't going to be your same 'ole greasy spoon," Crosby said.

The restaurant will specialize in fresh seafood and fish and chips along with the traditional breakfast and lunch fare diners will expect when they walk through the door at Crosby's Cafe.

The restaurant will be open daily at 7 a.m. Closing time is 2 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday. Dinner is served Thursday through Saturday until 8 p.m.

Along with full service, take out is available.
