Filippou's Gets Liquor License Expansion

Request to serve liquor is to keep business competitive, owner says.

Now you can order a martini with that pizza.

The East Greenwich Town Council on Monday approved a liquor license expansion from BVL to BL for Fillippou's Twisted Pizza on Main Street, paving the way for the popular restaurant and pizza spot to serve mixed drinks and cocktails along with beer and wine.

Owner Steve Filippou told council members before the unanimous vote that he sought the license to keep the business "competitive on the strip."

Filippou promised the restaurant isn't going to start pouring shots "or anything like that — it's about being able to offer martinis" and other liquor drinks to dine-in guests who want something other than beer or wine. He noted his location in Exeter has been serving liquor with no problems.

"It's just something to stay with the times," Filippou said.

Town Council President Michael B. Isaacs noted that Filippou's has never had any problems or license issues with the town before the expansion request.
