Trash pickup delayed one day: Because of the Veterans Day holiday on Monday, trash is delayed one day all week. Also, leaf bags will be picked up all month long on your pickup day. If you still have storm debris, contact the Public Works department for pick up: 886-8618.

Symposium Books story hour: At Story Hour at Symposium Books every week we pick a new story and read it to the kids with animal crackers and fun! Favorite stories are "No Matter What" and "Jungle Explorer." Come early and help pick the story, and better yet, there is a 10% additional discount on everything in the store during story hour! From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Coastal Growers Winter Farmers Market: Today is the first day of the Winter Farmers Market in North Kingstown. Miss your Tallulah’s Tacos? You can pick some up at the winter market! You can also pick up produce, meat, baked goods and artisan goods. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lafayette Mill at 650 Ten Rod Road in North Kingstown.

Sharing Locker on Saturday: This non-food pantry at Westminster Unitarian Church is meant to assist people in meeting their basic needs for living, to increase their quality of life, and to fill the gap for those who are struggling. Provisions offered include all-purpose cleaners, dish detergent, hand soap, laundry detergent, SOS pads, deodorant, body lotion, razors, facial tissue, paper towels, toilet paper, and dry pet food for dogs and cats. Located in the Church House and open on the third Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Silver Spoon Bakery grand opening: Silver Spoon Bakery makes its official retail debut today at noon! Stop by 58 Main Street, East Greenwich for cupcakes, French macarons, and champagne! Tour our new space, relax in comfy chairs and enjoy wifi, and mingle with friends. Please RSVP if you can make it!

Birthplace of the Navy? John Hattendorf will address the topic at the EG Free Library Saturday afternoon. For those who didn’t know, East Greenwich is a serious contender as well as at least two other municipalities. Hattendorf is the Ernest J. King Professor of Maritime History at the U.S. Naval War College, among other distinctions. He will settle this issue! From 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Presented by the Friends of the East Greenwich Free Library.

Talent Factory Fall Showcase: Please join our dance and theatre companies as they showcase their talent. At Cole Middle School. Admission is: $10 Proceeds benefit the Elite Company at NYCDA Nationals. 5 p.m.

Looking ahead …

2nd Annual Turkey Trot is coming! Last year’s EG Hill and Harbour Turkey Trot was such a success that it’s back – on the Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. It’s a fully sanctioned and certified 5K race in downtown EG. The main event starts at 9 a.m. with a 1-mile fun run at 8:30. Other activities will include crafts, music, and food. Last year, families, individuals, teams, all sorts of people took part, more than 700 runners! You can register here .
