2014 Newport Concert Series At The Newport Yachting Center To Kick Off With The Wailers & Rusted Root

March 4, 2014 -- The Newport Concert Series at the Newport Yachting Center (formerly the Sunset Music Series) announces The Wailers & Rusted Root will kick-off what promises to be a memorable summer of music along Newport Harbor on Saturday, May 31st.  The Wailers will be performing Bob Marley’s 1984 album Legend in its entirety in commemoration of it being 30 years since its release.  Tickets will be available for purchase for $39.50, $49.50 and $59.50 starting this Thursday, March 6th at noon by visiting www.newportwaterfrontevents.com or calling 800-745-3000.  The Newport Concert Series will take place from late May through October at its unique waterfront venue in the heart of historic downtown Newport.

Starting with its long musical partnership with reggae legend Bob Marley, The Wailers and its leader-bassist Aston “Family Man” Barrett have sold in excess of 250 million albums worldwide and are now considered by many to be the greatest living exponents of Jamaica’s reggae tradition.  Rusted Root is known for their unique fusion of acoustic, rock, world and other styles of music with a strong percussion section that draws from African, Latin American and Native American influences.

“After the roaring success of last year’s concert series kick-off which featured reggae in May with Toots & The Maytals we decided to do it again this year with The Wailers,” said Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center.  “The Newport Yachting Center is the perfect venue for reggae and we’ll be bringing it back several times this summer.  This is just the first of what promises to be a hot Newport Concert Series lineup – stay tuned for some surprises!”  Palmieri added that the gates will open at 4:00 p.m. with The Ravers kicking the music off at 4:30 p.m. followed by Adam Ezra, Rusted Root and then The Wailers.
