East Greenwich Animal Protection League Annual Hound Hike Fundraiser to Take Place Sunday, September 29th

100% of Proceeds to Benefit EGAPL's Life-Saving Mission

WHO:  The East Greenwich Animal Protection League (EGAPL) is a no-kill 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization run entirely by volunteers which serves all dogs and cats picked up by the East Greenwich Animal Control Officer, animals owned by people who can no longer care for them, as well as animals in urgent need of rescue from other areas as funding permits. This year’s primary Hound Hike sponsors include Alan and Marie Weiss, Centreville Bank, Amica Insurance and Ocean State Veterinary Services. Grille on Main is donating food to registered hike participants.

WHAT: The Hound Hike, now in its 17th year, is EGAPL’s largest annual fundraiser, with all proceeds going to provide shelter, food and medical care of animals awaiting adoption and to enable the organization to continue saving more lives. Local vendors will also be on hand with samples of pet-related treats and information. Music, raffles, and a free lunch will also be provided as part of this fun-filled day for a great cause. Fee per hiker $20.00; a registration form can be downloaded in advance on Facebook or picked up at the event.

This year’s MC will be reporter Kimberly Kalunian of News Talk 630 WPRO & 99.7 FM. Kalunian has been seen in and around Rhode Island at such theaters as Trinity Repertory, The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts, The Zeiterion Theatre, Wheelock Family Theatre and Club Oberon at the American Repertory Theatre.

Wood Worx RI, a local designer of custom woodworks, has created and donated a beautiful dog bed/food station valued at over $200 to be raffled off as the “big ticket” raffle item at the event. Many other local merchants have also generously donated items for the raffle.  “We are so thankful to Travis Shackelford at Wood Worx RI and to all of our sponsors, donors and advertisers for the generous contributions to the Hound Hike, as well as to Kim Kalunian for lending her talents to this event,” said Tammy Flanagan, EGAPL president. “It takes a lot of support to make this fundraiser possible and we truly appreciate how the community has once again come together for us. We really expect this to be the best Hound Hike yet thanks to our stellar team of volunteers, contributors and supporters who have worked very hard to ensure that we’ll have a lot of fun things to offer attendees. Most importantly, we hope that while people are there enjoying themselves that they’ll remember what an important cause this is all for and that together we’ll be able to raise funds to save many more innocent lives this year.” Some of EGAPL’s wonderful animals will be there to meet perspective adopters and enjoy this memorable day at the park. EGAPL will also be collecting spare change for their "Pocket Change for Paws" program – shake out your couch cushions and check under the car seats because literally every penny helps!
