East Greenwich Animal Protection League Gearing up for 17th Annual Hound Hike Fundraiser to Save Lives of Homeless Animals

WHO: The East Greenwich Animal Protection League (EGAPL) is a no-kill 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization run entirely by volunteers which serves all dogs and cats picked up by the East Greenwich Animal Control Officer, animals owned by people who can no longer care for them, as well as animals in urgent need of rescue from other areas as funding permits.

WHAT: The Hound Hike, now in its 17th year, is EGAPL’s largest annual fundraiser, with all proceeds going to provide shelter, food and medical care of animals awaiting adoption and to enable the organization to continue saving more lives. Local vendors will also be on hand with samples of pet-related treats and information. Music, raffles, and a free lunch will also be provided as part of this fun-filled day for a great cause. Fee per hiker $20.00; you can contact Renee Bucklin (rbucklin@hotmail.com) for a registration form in advance or register at the walk.

There are many ways to get involved to support this great cause:

  • Participate as a walker on September 29th and ask family and friends to support you by making a donation of any size that you can bring the day of the walk. Prizes are given for the top three adult and top three child money raisers.

  • EGAPL is currently looking for corporate sponsors to support the Hound Hike. If you are interested, please contact Nancy Davey at tdavey9@verizon.net for sponsorship info.

  • Local vendors and merchants are asked to consider donating products, gift certificates, or services for the raffle valued at a minimum of $25. All businesses who donate a raffle prize receive a free business card size ad in the official Hound Hike Program. Contact Liz at billydlizzyd@verizon.net regarding raffle donations.

  • You can also help by running an ad or placing a greeting in the official Hound Hike Program. A ½ page ad is $50, full page $100 or an 8-10 word ‘greeting’ is $15. Contact Jean Ann Guliano at (401)323-5196 or email houndhikeprogram@gmail.com for more information.

  • Can’t go? You can still make a donation via EGAPL’s website at http://www.egapl.org/contribute.html. Contributions of any size are greatly appreciated! Remember, everything goes towards the shelter, food and medical care of the area’s homeless animals.

Call 401-323-5196 for more information on the program or to volunteer a raffle item.  You can also submit your greeting or ad materials via email to houndhikeprogram@gmail.com or to EGAPL at P.O. Box 184, East Greenwich, RI  02818.
