Rocky Hill School Students Win Local Competitions

Students in Rocky Hill School's robotics independent study course participated in a qualifying tournament of the FIRST Tech Challenge at New England Tech on Saturday, January 18.  The FIRST Tech Challenge is a robotics competition that allows students to compete head to head using a sports model.

Sophomore Zachary Jennings (West Kingston) and junior JC Armonies-Assaslone (South Kingstown) and their robot, The Mariner, were part of the winning alliance at the tournament. The relatively simple design of their robot and the team's willingness to collaborate with others at the tournament itself, were the key factors leading to this victory. Sophomore Tyler Gates (Warwick) also contributed to building the robot. Next up for the students is the FIRST Tech Challenge regional competition February 8.

After a weeklong Sumdog competition with other southern Rhode Island schools including East Greenwich and North Kingstown, Rocky Hill School's fourth grade class took the prize of Overall Winner.  Garrett Corsi (Jamestown), Drew Tamburini (East Greenwich) and Ben Liebermensch (Wakefield) were awarded certificates of merit for placing among the top 10 of all competitors. Sumdog is an online math site that allows users to practice math topics.
