Audit Report, Zeppoles & More

Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, March 19.

Town Council – School Committee joint meeting: The main item on the agenda is discussion of the 2011 town audit, which encompasses both the municipality and the schools. Also on the agenda is the 2013 budget. In Council Chambers at Town Hall, starting at 7 p.m.

St. Joseph’s Day (i.e. Zeppoles!): Yes, we can eat zeppoles on March 18, and we can eat zeppoles on March 20, but today is THE day for zeppoles, a baked or fried cream puff-type confection. They are associated with St. Joseph, according to one website, because Sicilians in the Middle Ages prayed to St. Joseph to end a drought. When rains came, they marked the occasion with a feast that included zeppoles. Don't know about you, but that works for us at EG Patch!

Stuntology is coming: Sam Bartlett of Stuntology is in town this week — mark your calendar so you don’t miss him. He’s at Cole Middle School tomorrow afternoon, showing off some (relatively) easy-to-learn tricks, pranks, and challenges that you can use to amaze your friends. He’ll be at the Both events are free. Call ahead to the library for a reservation for Saturday, 884-9510 ext. 27.

Amelia Earhart will be flying in: The Friends of East Greenwich Free Library is excited to announce that aviation's sweetheart ! The program is on Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m. The program will be followed by a dessert reception.

Weather: It just keeps getting better — today starts off a bit chilly, but will warm up to the high 60s, and the 70s are in our future this week. So, if you can swing some outdoor time today or just about any day this week, do it!
