E-Waste, Story Hour & More

Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, Feb. 25.

Local delegate hopefuls look for signatures:
The delegate nomination process begins today – Friday, February 24 – and concludes next Tuesday. Two EG residents have filed to run as delegates to the Republican National Convention: Liz Smith as a Romney delegate and Pratik Chougule as a Santorum delegate. To help them get the required 150 signatures apiece, the GOP Town Committee representatives will be at Panera Bread this morning from 10 a.m. to noon.

Story Hour at Symposium Books: Come to Story Hour at Symposium Books, where they pick a new story every week and read it to the kids with animal crackers and fun! Favorite stories are "No Matter What" and "Jungle Explorer." Come early and help pick the story, and better yet, there is a 10 percent additional discount on everything in the store during story hour!

Transfer Station’s open: The EG Transfer Station, everyone’s favorite hangout, is open today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

E-Waste Recycling Day: Rocky Hill School's environmental club, The Defenders, is hosting an E-Waste Recycling Day fundraising event Saturday, February 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the rear parking lot. The event is free and open to the public to bring for collection the following items:  televisions, monitors, CPU boxes, refrigerators, microwaves, air conditioners, and miscellaneous electronics and appliances. In accordance with state and federal law, all computer hard drives will be wiped or shredded. No tires, mercury, gas tanks, stand alone batteries or ballast will be taken at the time of collection. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Weather: Well, we seem to have gotten the forecast wrong yesterday — didn’t quite see that snow coming! We are trying again today. Temperatures won’t get much beyond 40 degrees today, and may feel positively winter-ish.
