Five Things: Schools Budget Hearing, 'Biz After Hours'

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Feb 26.

School Committee meeting: Tonight is the public hearing on the School Department’s budget for fiscal year 2014 (July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014). If you have an opinion about school spending, this is a great opportunity to express it. 7 p.m. in the library at Cole Middle School.

‘Business After Hours’ @ Coastway Community Bank: The East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce holds its monthly Business After Hours at Coastway Community Bank tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. 5750 Post Road. Join Chamber members for a great night of networking and making more business contacts. There will be food, refreshments and door prizes.

Workshop for private well owners: This Private Well Protection Workshop for homeowners is meant to ensure safe drinking water. During the workshop you will learn how you can protect and maintain your private well. The workshop is hosted by the Rhode Island Department of Health and the University of Rhode Island's Cooperative Extension Water Quality Program and will be held at the Louitt Library in West Greenwich. For more information, see riwelltesting.org.

Water Street closed: Water Street at the Barbara Tuft's Playground (Lion Street) will be closed 24 hours a day for approximately 4 more weeks. No traffic will be able to pass because of the vertical trench sheeting that will be in the road. This construction is to replace the 90-year-old sewer main from the bottom of King Street to the Waste Water Treatment Facility. If you have any questions, contact the Department of Public Works at 886-8618.
