Five Things: Blood Drive, Vacation

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Feb 19.

Blood Drive: The bloodmobile will be outside of Starbucks on Main Street this afternoon from 3 to 7 p.m. The R.I. Blood Center lost nearly 600 donations during last week’s blizzard, so donations are extra-appreciated!

Winter vacation week: February break can be a challenge. If you have a great winter vacation idea, please share it here.

Water Street closed: Water Street at the Barbara Tuft's Playground (Lion Street) will be closed 24 hours a day for approximately 5 weeks. No traffic will be able to pass because of the vertical trench sheeting that will be in the road. This construction is to replace the 90-year-old sewer main from the bottom of King Street to the Waste Water Treatment Facility. If you have any questions, contact the Department of Public Works at 886-8618.

Post your Events and Announcements on EG Patch: If you have something you’d like to see on the EG Patch calendar, upload it by clicking here and finding the “Add an Event” tab on the right. The Events Calendar is my go-to spot for the daily Five Things column. If you want to be featured in Five Things, make sure you post your items on the calendar! If you have something you’d like to post as an Announcement, you can do that by clicking here. I routinely post Announcements to the EG Patch home page.

Vacation head’s up: I’m away (really!) through Sat., Feb. 23. Asst. Regional Editor Patrick Luce will be manning the site in my absence. His email is patrick.luce@patch.com. But if you have something that can wait for my return, please do wait. I will have my phone but will be trying to not respond to work emails!

On Wednesday …

Fancy Nancy Tea Party: The Friends of the EG Free Library is hosting the Fancy Nancy Tea Party on Wednesday for boys and girls ages 4 to 8. Dress up in your favorite outfit and come have some fun. They'll be serving mini turkey and jelly sandwiches, carrots, tea and apple juice and mini cupcakes and other yummies. There will be crafts and story time. Space is limited – to register call the Children's Room at 884-9510, ext. 4. From 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Blood Drive: The Bloodmobile will be parked outside of Dunkin Donuts at 2611 South County Trail on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The R.I. Blood Center lost nearly 600 donations during last week’s blizzard, so donations are extra-appreciated!
