Five Things: Council, Market, Fundraiser

Town Council meeting: On the agenda is award of bid to C.N. Wood Company for the purchase of a street sweeper for $160,000 and a proposed ordinance for a multi-way stop intersection at  Great Road and Kent Drive. The meeting, in Council Chambers at Town Hall, starts at 7 p.m.

EG Farmers Market: There are only two markets left this season, so don’t miss today’s. The taco truck! The produce! The seafood! The baked goods! From 3 to 6 p.m. on Academy Field next to Rector Street. Be there.

Mark Schwager fundraiser: Congressman Jim Langevin and General Treasurer Gina Raimondo are scheduled to be on hand for this fundraiser for Mark Schwager, candidate for State Rep, District 30, Blu on the Water (formerly 20 Water Street) from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations are accepted in $75/$100/$150+ amounts. Pumpkin sale for a good cause: That pumpkin patch in front of the EG United Methodist Church on South County Trail isn’t just a joyful scene (those it is that in spades!). Proceeds will benefit Janice Wray, East Greenwich resident and URI nursing student, suffered serious injury in a car accident on April 1st of this year which left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair.  After almost 4 months in hospitals she has come back home to her family and now faces a new path of healing and recovery within her local community.  While her positive spirit and determination to overcome and succeed is remarkable and an inspiration to many, the road ahead for her promises to be long and arduous, with many as yet unknown obstacles and medical expenses.
