Five Things: Columbus Day Holiday

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Oct. 8.

Columbus Day: In 1492, Columbus sailed the blue ... Whether or not Columbus actually "discovered" America, many of us get a holiday out of it. And there's no dispute that Columbus's making landfall in the Americas brought about significant change. So, there's no school today and town offices are closed. That means trash is delayed a day for the rest of the week, too.

Kidzone 'School’s Out' Party: Children up to age 8 are invited to come in to Kidzone for a day of fun! Enjoy face painting, temporary tattoos, and complete a make-and-take craft for no additional price beyond admission. $3. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 650 Ten Rod Rd, North Kingstown.

EG Farmers Market: It’s fall at the farmers market. That means delicious apples, bright pumpkins, dinner-plate dahlia, and all the other wonderful edibles we’re so fond of (think tacos, breads, seafood, meats, and pizza!) From 3 to 6 p.m.

Avenger home games: No home games today, but the Girls Volleyball team is playing in the Koch Eye Classic at CCRI in Warwick starting at 9 a.m. For the latest information about EGHS sports, check out the Avengers Booster Club website.

EG Art Club New Members Show: From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1043 Main St.
