Five Things: Farmers Market Heats Up

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, July 15.

EG Farmers Market: Swing by Academy Field this afternoon and pick up prepared foods (Middle Eastern delights from the Deli or pizza from Bravo), items to grill (seafood from Matunuck Oysters, meats from Pat’s Pastured), and lots of fresh vegetables, as well as sweets baked in someone else’s oven! It’s hot-weather fare made easy. From 3 to 6 p.m.

Weather: It looks to be a good week for a beach rental. For the rest of us … hot and hotter. If you are in dire need of A/C, head to Swift Community Center between 9 and 5 p.m. After that, the Community Room at the police station is open until 8 p.m. Got any great ideas for beating the heat? Leave them in the comments section – we’re going to need them!

Summer's End needs our help: Summer’s End is the concert on the Friday of Labor Day weekend that’s everyone’s favorite East Greenwich event. But we need to help make it happen. The Summer’s End organization – SAFO – is looking for volunteers and for donations. You can read all about it here.

EG Food Cupboard needs donations: People are hungry all year round, Chris and Steve Bartlett of the Food Cupboard remind us. Items especially needed are jars of jelly, baked beans, canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, and cereals. The food cupboard is housed at St. Luke’s Church. You can leave food there during normal business hours.
