Five Things: Moonrise Kingdom & GBSA Open House

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, June 22.

Goddard Park Farmers Market: Our cup runneth over once more! We are now in that happy period of the year when the East Greenwich area has not one but TWO farmers markets! If that makes you happy, be sure to swing by the Goddard Park market today to stock up for the weekend. Then, on Monday, when you’re running low again on supplies, you can hit the EG Farmers Market! Today’s market goes from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Moonrise Kingdom opens: The movie by Wes Anderson filmed entirely in Little Rhody and a splash success at the Cannes Film Festival in May .

Teen Center: The place to be for kids from age 13 to 18 is the Eldredge gym on Friday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. Just remember: leave your parents behind. Run by Bob Houghtaling.

GBSA Open House & Parent Night: Whether you’ve signed up your child to attend sailing camp this summer, or you wanted to get more information first, tonight’s the night. There will be a brief overview of their plans for the summer, then you’ll get to meet the instructors. We’ll cover logistics, curriculum, and any other questions you may have. Bob Adam of Zim Sailing will be there as well with the Zim Mobile  support van full of gear. So if you need a new life jacket or anything else, you can pick it up on the spot. If you have not yet registered or if you know of anyone who may be interested in GBSA, please invite them to come. Opti-Beginners (session I) is filled but we still have availability in Beginners, Opti-Beginners (Session II), 420 Beginners, 420 Intermediate  and Opti-Green classes. As a reminder, we offer two, four, and eight week options both full and half day. If you can’t be at the Open House, you can get more information by calling 484-7732 or emailing info@gbsa.info.

Not quite as hot: But not ideal, either. Thunderstorms will be moving in this afternoon, with temperatures before that as high as 90. The storms will bring in a cool front, which will make the weekend more comfortable. Just remember, in January, we were dying for warmer weather!

[Update] Fiesta Ole! is sold out: St. Elizabeth’s Home is hosting “Fiesta Ole!” tonight, a celebration that will include Mexican food by our own Tio Mateo’s, desserts from LaSalle Bakery and mariachi band music by Fiesta del Norte. The fiesta runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and costs $45 per person. For more information, check out their website or call Sarah Bowater at 401-471-6060 for more information.
