Five Things: Land Trust, School Committee

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, July 16.

Weather: Yesterday was beautiful – all those puffy clouds – but really hot. Today looks to be the same. The ocean beaches, a pool, or an afternoon matinee are your best bets. If you are in dire need of free A/C, head to Swift Community Center between 9 and 5 p.m. or the EG Free Library between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Also, the Community Room at the police station is open until 8 p.m. Got any great ideas for beating the heat? Leave them in the comments section, please!

School Committee meeting: The panel meets in the library at Cole Middle School at 7 p.m. Click here for the agenda.

Land Trust meeting: The panel meets in the conference room across from Council Chambers at Town Hall at 7 p.m. Click here for the agenda.

Trivia Contest @ The Grille: Tuesday night is Trivia Night at the Grille on Main. It’s loads of fun whether you compete with a large group or just with your date. There are prizes every round, as well as a grand prize. The only catch? You have to be there by 8 p.m. to enter.

Save the Bay Swim: I’m going to be swimming the Bay on Saturday and I wanted to connect with any other EG swimmers, kayakers or volunteers to arrange a photo before or after the swim. If you are participating, shoot me an email. If by chance you are interested in donating, you can support me in my swim here.

Using Facebook for business: The number of small businesses using Facebook grew from 13 million to 16 million in the first quarter of 2013. If you need some help getting your business on Facebook, this free workshop at RI Small Business Recovery Center in Warwick is a good place to start. They will cover the various types of Facebook pages you can choose, how to begin building and retaining an audience and the basics of Facebook ads. On Thursday …

Main Street Stroll & Dog Parade: Pets and people gather at the Back to Basics/Hill & Harbour Veterinary Clinic parking lot at 500 Main Street starting at 5 p.m. for a parade down Main Street to Town Hall. Hill & Harbour Vet will be holding an open house to coincide with the stroll too. You don’t have to be a dog owner, though, to enjoy the stroll. There will be musicians, sidewalk vendors and all the wonderful, regular shops and restaurants that have made Main Street a hub. The stroll goes from 5 to 8 p.m.
