Five Things: Life After Sandy

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Oct. 30.

No School: For the second day in a row, school is cancelled. School officials have not yet decided if Thursday, Nov. 1, will remain a day off but we’ll keep you posted.

Town offices will be open: As of Monday night at 10 p.m., town offices will be open and senior services and Parks & Rec programs will go on as scheduled.

No trash pickup: There is no trash pickup Tuesday. Trash for Monday and Tuesday will be picked up on Wednesday. The remainder of the week will have a one-day delay. No yard waste will be picked up this week. Town crews will resume yard waste pickup once emergency cleanup is over.

If you are out of power: Contact National Grid at 800-322-3223 or contact the Police Department at 884-2244 to let them know of outages. National Grid needs to know specifically what neighborhoods are out of power. Stay away from downed  power lines and assume they are energized and dangerous.

Water: If you are not on public water and depend on well water, the Fire District will provide water to residents but you will need to go to fire station #2 at 1180 Frenchtown Road. The station is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Briarbrook Auction today: The auction will take place today after being postponed from yesterday, at the Varnum Armory, at 5 p.m.
