Five Things: Odeum Re-Opening, Story Hour

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Dec. 1.

Symposium Books story hour: At Story Hour at Symposium Books every week we pick a new story and read it to the kids with animal crackers and fun! Favorite stories are "No Matter What" and "Jungle Explorer." Come early and help pick the story, and better yet, there is a 10% additional discount on everything in the store during story hour! From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

15th Annual Open Studios at Shady Lea Mill: The wonderful artists at the Shady Lea are again opening up their studios and selling their work. Featuring pottery, sculpture, painting, glass blowing, pewter frames, photography, woodworking, jewelry and classes in art, guitar building and furniture making. This year there are several new additions; in addition, they will be featuring The Aikido Collaborative, offering Aikido and Japanese sword studies, and the paranormal group *GHOSTS* have planned an exciting presentation of their adventures at the mill and other local places of interest. The Shady Lea continues to be home to an artistic magic that permeates throughout every Studio. Please bring non-perishable food items and gently worn winter clothing.

Greenwich Odeum’s Grand Re-Opening! This is something to celebrate. After being closed for 5 years, the Greenwich Odeum on Main Street will reopen Saturday night for a special soft-opening fundraiser. Come visit the newly renovated theater, enjoy live music, food, beverages and check out the many great silent auction items, including a meal prepared by EG Town Manager Bill Sequino; Youth Sailing Lessons at EG Sailing Academy; a Top Gun Experience for One as a Fighter Pilot for a Day in a Military Aircraft; springtime striper fishing in Narragansett Bay Newport Cruise for 8, and two badges to the 2013 Masters Golf Tournament. Tickets are available at the door and cost $35. It begins as 7 p.m.

Not $600 million but … One of EG’s two Cumberland Farms sold a $10,000 winning Powerball ticket on Nov. 28. Was it yours?

Super Bowl on Sunday: The EGHS Avengers take on the Middletown Islanders for the Division III state championship at Carcieri Field. This should be a game. The Islanders are undefeated and the Avengers have lost only one game this season – to the Islanders, naturally. Gametime 3 p.m.
