Five Things: Pumpkins, Apples & Dahlias

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Oct. 1.

EG Farmers Market: It’s fall at the farmers market. That means delicious apples, bright pumpkins, dinner-plate dahlia, and all the other wonderful edibles we’re so fond of (think tacos, breads, seafood, meats, and pizza!) From 3 to 6 p.m.

Avenger home games: Boys and Girls Cross Country teams compete today at Goddard Park, starting at 3:30 p.m.; Boys JV Soccer plays South Kingstown at 3:30 at Carcieri Field; Girls Volleyball versus West Warwick, JV at 4:45, Varsity at 6:30; Boys Varsity Soccer against Pilgrim at 6 p.m. For the latest information about EGHS sports, check out the Avengers Booster Club website.

EG Food Cupboard needs donations: People are hungry all year round, Chris and Steve Bartlett of the Food Cupboard remind us. Items especially needed are jars of jelly, baked beans, canned fruit, tuna, peanut butter, and cereals. The food cupboard is housed at St. Luke’s Church. You can leave food there during normal business hours.

Post Events, Announcements on EG Patch: If you have something you’d like to see on the EG Patch calendar, upload it by clicking here and finding the “Add an Event” tab on the right. The Events Calendar is my go-to spot for the daily Five Things column. If you want to be featured in Five Things, make sure you post your items on the calendar! If you have something you’d like to post as an Announcement, you can do that by clicking here. I routinely post Announcements to the EG Patch home page.

Weather: This could be the best day of the week, with sunny skies and temperatures into the low 70s. Get outside if you can!
