Five+ Things: School Committee, Cove Commish, Art Club

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Feb 5.

School Committee meeting: The agenda includes resolutions on binding arbitration and the layoff notification date as well as discussion of the fiscal year 2014 budget. The public meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the library at Cole Middle School. It is preceded by an executive (private) session that begins at 5:30.

Cove Commission meeting: The agenda includes discussion of research on a water dock and the right of way at Harris Marina. The meeting takes places at 4:30 p.m. in the conference room across from Council Chambers at Town Hall.

EG Art Club meeting: The EGAC holds its monthly meeting tonight at 7 at the First Baptist Church, with guest artist Domine Vescera Ragosta. Ragosta works in various media, but her first love is oils. A contemporary painter who has captured the romance of the Impressionistic style of the late 19th century, Ragosta is known for her depiction of snowy woods, green meadows, flowers and pond scenes. She paints with a soft, yet aggressive style that conveys the texture and life of her subject matter. Her paintings use unique colors and heavy layers of paint and illustrate the forms of leaves, branches and petals. Ragosta works exclusively with palette knives to create areas of thick paint, preferring to create the painting as a whole, instead of focusing on specific areas. For more information, visit the EGAC website or call Ian at 941-3153.

Story hour at Rocky Hill: A monthly story time and singalong designed for 2- to 5-year- olds and their grown-ups at Rocky Hill School, 530 Ives Road, Potowomut. At 10:45 a.m.

Avenger Home action: The Girls Basketball team plays Tiverton at 5:15 (JV) and 7 p.m. (V).

Trivia Contest @ The Grille: Tuesday night is Trivia Night at the Grille on Main. It’s loads of fun whether you compete with a large group or just with your date. There are prizes every round, as well as a grand prize. The only catch? You have to be there by 8 p.m. to enter.

Greenwich Cove videos: The video attached here is of a hawk at Scalloptown Park yesterday morning. A bit earlier, I shot video of a swan breaking through the ice on the Cove.
