Five Things: Shop Local, Run Local, Eat Local

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Nov. 24.

Turkey Trot today! The second annual EG Hill and Harbour Turkey Trot is this morning. Work off the holiday calories with friends and family. It’s a fully sanctioned and certified 5K race in downtown EG. The main event starts at 9 a.m. with a 1-mile fun run at 8:30. Other activities will include crafts, music, and food. The EG Lions ask that you bring a canned good with you to donate to the EG Interfaith Food Cupboard. Come on down to the Varnum Armory. See you there!

Shop Local Saturday: If you love Main Street (and the shops on Post Road and Division Street), show that love today! Also known as Small Business Saturday.

Symposium Books story hour: At Story Hour at Symposium Books every week we pick a new story and read it to the kids with animal crackers and fun! Favorite stories are "No Matter What" and "Jungle Explorer." Come early and help pick the story, and better yet, there is a 10 percent additional discount on everything in the store during story hour! From 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Coastal Growers Winter Market: The Coastal Growers Market has moved indoors for the season. Every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., head to the market's new location in the upstairs area of Lafayette Mill on Ten Rod Road. Vendors include:

Make reservations: If you are thinking of eating out tonight, keep in mind that half of East Greenwich is thinking the same exact thing. I know because Neal and I tried to eat out last year on this Saturday and it was not easy to find a table. Do yourself a favor and call ahead.
