Five Things: Summer, And An Anniversary

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, June 20.

Planning Board meeting: No presentations or hearings at tonight’s meeting. Rather, they will be electing a new chair and vice chair for the committee. Chairman Brad Bishop is stepping down from the board in January (and perhaps sooner, if he is elected to the Town Council in November). The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Town Hall.

Affordable Housing Task Force meeting: On the agenda is an update on the long-awaited Comprehensive Plan update and a draft report to the Town Council. The group meets in Conference Room B at Town Hall at 3 p.m.

Open Studio Day at Shady Lea Mill: Today is the first open studio day of the summer season. Visitors are welcome between noon and four. All studios will not be open but you will meet some of the artists and artisans and see what they have to offer. There are jewelers, potters, painters, woodworkers, sculptors, glass blowers and beaders to name a few. You never know who you will  find on a Wednesday afternoon stroll through the Shady Lea. Biomes, the Marine Biology Center will also be open. For a fee, you can see an amazing collection of marine animals. Open Studio Day will continue until Labor Day.

Facebook: If you haven’t “liked” EG Patch on Facebook yet, click on this link to make it happen! We post all sorts of good stuff on our page that you won’t want to miss! Thanks.

Weather: Summer is here! The summer solstice takes place at 11:09 tonight, making it official. And it’s going to feel like summer today too, with temperatures into the 90s and that good ole humidity. Time to throw some rice grains into your salt shaker!

… and one last thing: Happy 25th Anniversary, Neal – I love you!
