Five Things: Veterans Day Parade!

Your guide for life in East Greenwich today, Nov. 11.

Veterans Day Parade is today! Veterans Day is Nov. 11 and in keeping with tradition the parade to honor our veterans steps off today, but note the time – 2 p.m. Yes, it will take place during the Patriots-Bills game, but really it’s a no brainer. This is a chance to thank all those who have served our country! And, the weather’s going to be lovely! The parade steps off from Academy Field, proceeds up Spring Street to Mawney Street to First Avenue to Main Street to Town Hall. Be there!

Adopt-A-Pet Open House: Animals are available for viewing and adoption today with the assistance of a dedicated East Greenwich Animal Protection League member. The open house takes place at Greenwich Bay Animal Hospital from 10:30 to 1 p.m. Individual appointments are also available.

Grief Support: This group meets in the Christ Church office condo on Sunday afternoons and is for anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one. Each week there is a video which covers different topics pertinent to those who are grieving. Following the video there is time to discuss the contents with others in the group. Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. It is a safe and welcoming environment. For more information, contact the church at 884-8632.

Sea Scouts Pasta Dinner: The Sea Scouts need your support. Please join us for a pasta dinner tonight at the East Greenwich Yacht Club beginning at 5 p.m. Proceeds go to supporting a co-educational youth group here on Greenwich Bay! Cost is $10 each for adults, Children under 6 are free. Scouts (includes Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Explorers) are $8.

2nd Annual Turkey Trot is coming! Last year’s EG Hill and Harbour Turkey Trot was such a success that it’s back – on the Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. It’s a fully sanctioned and certified 5K race in downtown EG. The main event starts at 9 a.m. with a 1-mile fun run at 8:30. Other activities will include crafts, music, and food. Last year, families, individuals, teams, all sorts of people took part, more than 700 runners in total! Don't miss out – you can register here.

You can sign up and follow @egpatch and get breaking news and links to our stories and others that are of interest to our readers. And don’t worry, you don’t have to “tweet” yourself if you don’t want to. Just follow along!

Facebook ‘likes’: My thanks to all who have “liked” us on Facebook already. If you haven’t yet, our next big goal (it's major!) is 1,000 likes. If you haven’t done so yet, click here to like us on Facebook so you will get all the latest info. I will be using it a lot in the days ahead for election news, so be ready! And thanks!
