Five Things: Vets Job Training, Avenger Action

'Hire Our Heroes' job training session: The R.I. Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve (EGSR) is conducting a free job training seminar today from 1 to 3 p.m. at Providence Network RI, 1 Reservoir Ave., Providence, to help veterans and military spouses prepare for the upcoming “Hiring Our Heroes Rhode Island Job Fair” later this month.

Hill & Harbor Knitting & Crocheting: Needle types both experienced and novice, and all those inbetween too, are invited to come to this group at the EG Free Library from 1 to 3 p.m. every Thursday.

Avenger Home Games: Boys Tennis against Prout this afternoon for Senior Day, starting at 3:30 p.m. and Boys Volleyball against Exeter/West Greenwich, with JV at 4:45 p.m. and Varsity at 6.

Taste of the Town on Friday: EG Rotary is holding Friday at the St. Francis de Sales parish hall in North Kingstown. There will be food from a variety of local restaurants, including , , , and , with wine pairings by . In addition, there will be both silent and live auctions. Proceeds will benefit Rotary Scholarship Programs.

Excellence in Education forum Monday: The EGSD brings a second in what will be a series of four forums on educational issues — the last two next fall. Tonight’s session will look at the length of the school day and school year and the possible value in extending them. It promises to be an interesting and informative presentation and all are welcome. In the Strings and Orchestra room at Cole Middle School at 7 p.m.
