Planning, Poetry & "... Paris"

Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, March 21.

Planning Board meeting: The developer hoping to put a MacDonald's on New London Turnpike across the street from the Centre of New England will be back before the board tonight, looking for a "major change to the approved plan." The meeting will take place in Council Chambers at Town Hall starting at 7 p.m.

New Neighbors meeting: The East Greenwich-Cowesett New Neighbors Club meets tonight at 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the East Greenwich United Methodist Church, located at 1558 South County Trail. Because it is an evening meeting, babysitting will not be provided. This month URI Professor Roberta Humble will present "The Big Rhode Island Quiz." Take the quiz, listen to the amazing answers, and discover new and exciting information about Rhode Island. For more information about New Neighbors and/or questions about joining, please visit www.egcnn.org or contact Anne Zuleger at 398-7072 or Julie Lauro at 884-3265.

EGHS Unified Basketball: You haven’t seen basketball until you’ve seen Unified Basketball. The team is made up of half students with special needs and half peer “partners.” This is year three of Unified Basketball at the high school. Come out and cheer as the team takes on Pilgrim at 3:30 — you won’t be disappointed.

“Casablanca” @ the Showcase: Casablanca (“play it, Sam” … "round up the usual suspects"  … “Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship” … "Here's looking at you, kid" … “We’ll always have Paris”) was released 70 years ago this year. In honor of that, you can watch it on the big screen tonight at 7 at the Showcase. What’s your favorite line from Casablanca?

“My love is like a red red rose...”: March 21 is World Poetry Day, created in 2000 by UNESCO to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry across the globe. What’s your favorite line of poetry? Tell us in the comments.
