Holiday Closings, A Walk In The Park & More

Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, Dec 26.

Holiday Closings: Town offices are closed for the Christmas holiday, as is the EG Free Library and most banks. The U.S. Postal Service is also closed today. Most retail businesses, however, are open today, including liquor stores.

Head outdoors: It's going to get into the low 40s today and sun is predicted. If you've eaten perhaps a few too many holiday cookies (or was that just me?), maybe it's time to stretch the legs. Try a visit to . There are lots of beautiful trails through the woods to choose from or wander along the shoreline a bit.

One last day to enter: As of Sunday night, East Greenwich had three houses entered into Patch's Deck the House Contest. Not bad, but I know we can do better. If your house looks great this holiday season, consider snapping a photo of it tonight and entering it in the contest. The winner will receive a whopping $100,000 for their school district. That means we have a chance to win that money for EG! So, take the plunge. We may need your house to win! If you don’t have a photo to enter, check out the houses there and vote on the one you like the best.

Unsung Heroes of 2011: EG Patch is looking to showcase a few of the people who’ve made a difference this past year but not in a public way. If you have a suggestion, please send it to me at elizabeth.mcnamara@patch.com today (12/26). Thanks!

Got any great holiday photos? Consider adding them to our new feature, “.” You will find the “Add to Neighborhood Gallery” bar at the top of the right column. Click on it and there’s a place to upload your stuff. Give it a try! If you have any problems or questions, send me an email: elizabeth.mcnamara@patch.com.
