Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, April 26.


Matching Students, Teachers … a forum: The School Committee is hosting the first of four Excellence in Education Forums Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Cole Middle School. Read their letter to the editor about the series here. The topic for Thursday’s session is “Aligning Educator Talent with Student Need” — in other words, how to match teachers and students. Join us for a panel discussion with state and local educators and administrators, followed by an open discussion with members of the community. The special guest participant for this first forum are David Abbott, Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel for the Rhode Island Department of Education. Citizens Who Care meeting: This group focused on helping young people make good choices meets once a month. Today’s meeting takes place in the Community Room at the Police Department at 10 a.m. All are welcome.

Fire District meeting: On the agenda for tonight’s meeting is the Chief’s report, which includes manpower readiness and reports by safety, training, dive team and EMS. The meeting takes place in Council Chambers at Town Hall and starts at 7 p.m.

Parent Workshop: Sargent Center hosts this last in a series of workshops for parents: The Impact of Bullying on Children with Special Needs. It’s free and starts at 7 p.m. at the Sargent Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick.

Avenger home action: The Boys Volleyball team takes on Cranston West today, with the JV playing at 4:45 p.m and Varsity playing at 6:30 p.m.
