Shoplifting, High School Trespassing & Missing Tequila

Tuesday, June 5

1:40 p.m. — The security director at Dave’s Marketplace at 1000 Division Street told police a woman in her 30s has come into the store a few times and is on video two different occasions putting items into her purse. Security decided to review security videotapes after noticing her unusual buying habits. She routinely came in and bought only $2 worth of merchandise. After one occasion, a store employee followed the woman to her car and got the license plate number. The car was leased to a property management company in West Warwick. The security director said he would like to pursue a No Trespass order against the woman.

Wednesday, June 6

5:45 p.m. — A Marlborough Street resident reported seeing a person in the neighborhood who had recently been arrested for child molestation. The man had been released on bail earlier that day and a condition of his bail was that he not be around anyone under the age of 18. Police drove the man to West Warwick after issuing a No Trespass order to him for the EG Housing Authority properties on Marlborough Street and First Avenue.

Thursday, June 7

7:52 a.m. – Two Long Street residents reported punctured car tires sometime between 9:30 Wednesday night and 7:30 Thursday morning. Both cars had been parked on Marlborough Street. One of the residents said juveniles had been wandering the neighborhood late at night and have thrown trash in his backyard.

8:17 a.m. – An Adirondack Drive resident reported finding two empty syringes in the road by her house.

11:37 a.m. – Someone reported finding a bike in the woods off Middle Road. Police recovered a silver-and-blue Mongoose mountain bike. It was not reported stolen; police placed it in storage at the station.

1:28 p.m. – A resident of Marlborough Street reported all four tires of a car parked on the street there were slashed overnight. The car belonged to a friend of hers.

Friday, June 8

5:40 p.m. – An assistant manager at BankNewport said a man had been in earlier that day and cashed a check for $1,563.41 that turned out to be stolen. He had learned other checks had been passed at other BankNewport branches. Police contacted departments in Tiverton, Middletown and Warren, who all had reports on the same man.

10 p.m. – A resident of Long Street complained about ongoing parking problems at her apartment complex. Police at the scene did not see any cars parked improperly but the woman persisted and kept telling the officer he wasn’t doing his job.

10:20 p.m. – A boat owner docked at East Greenwich Marina reported missing a 32’’ television, a satellite radio, $100 cash and six bottles of vodka and tequila from his boat. The boat’s interior had been damaged as well, he said. He said he and his wife – who live in New York – had last seen the items Tuesday, May 29.

11:12 p.m. – The manager of Norman’s Tap on Main Street complained that a woman who’d been issued a No Trespass order in 2011 had come to the bar earlier. Police issued a new order, which the other woman refused to sign, telling the police officer to go away using more explicit language.

Saturday, June 9

1:47 a.m. – Someone reported an argument on Exchange Street and that the two parties got in separate vehicles (a truck and a car) and left with the car following the truck. Police stopped both vehicles on Main Street at Division. The man driving the truck and the woman driving the car were boyfriend and girlfriend. They'd fought and the man said he'd gotten in his truck to end the fight. The woman said she followed him because she wasn't finished with the argument. Police convinced the woman to stop following her boyfriend and the two were released.

10:16 p.m. – Police went to the high school because an alarm went off in Room 113. They found a glass door by the gym propped open and proceeded to search the building. They saw what was described in the report as a "young white male" near the locker rooms. They yelled "Stop, Police!" but the youth ran toward the south side of the building, out an exit there and toward Meadowbrook Farms School. Police could see a second person running away. Police saw the them get into a dark-colored SUV and drive east on Chestnut Avenue. At the high school, a school employee said it didn't look like anything had been taken or damaged, but a second door was found propped open, this one on the east side of the school. Neither door appeared to have been forced.

Sunday, June 10

1:08 a.m. – Police arrested Robert M. Trahan, 54, of Flanders Street in Johnston, for driving with a suspended license after being stopped for on Main Street near Division Street.
