Warwick Surgeon Suspended For Drug Use

Michael C. Coburn, M.D., of Kent Surgical Associates, was seen putting syringes in his pocket.


The R.I. Department of Health has suspended Michael C. Coburn from practicing medicine, citing an "immediate danger" to the public, for drug use. Coburn is part of Kent Surgical Associates, which has an office on Centerville Road. He practiced at Kent Hospital.

According to the news release, Coburn admitted to using Propofol and Fentanyl. A search of his sleeping room at Kent turned up syringes, Propofol vial caps and other use paraphernalia.

Coburn has not seen patients since the items were found and he admitted they were his. He has cooperative fully, according to the release.

The suspension began Jan. 3. Coburn is entitled to an administrative hearing within 10 days.
