EG GOP Endorses Fung for Governor

The committee made a "very deliberate decision" by making the endorsement, said Chuck Newton, EG GOP Town Committee chairman.

The East Greenwich Republican Town Committee has picked Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung as their favored candidate to be Rhode Island's next governor.

The committee made a "very deliberate decision" by making the endorsement, said Chuck Newton, EG GOP Town Committee chairman.

“Both Ken Block and Allan Fung had appeared before our group, made their case, and responded to our questions. And on Thursday evening, there was a spirited discussion prior to the vote.

"In the end, the Committee felt that Fung’s experience and track record as Cranston Mayor, and his consistent record as a Republican were distinguishing characteristics that set him apart and deserved our support,” Newton said.

The committee also endorsed Dawson Hodgson for attorney general, Anthony Giarrusso for a second term as state representative and Mark Gee, an East Greenwich Town Council member who is running to fill Hodgson's vacant seat.
