If you have a coat to give, please drop it off.
If you need a coat, please pick one up.

Some see Buy Nothing Day as an escape from the frantic consumer binge that has come to characterize the holiday season.  In Rhode Island, as part of International Buy Nothing Day, we hold a Winter Coat Exchange in various locations around the state, where people who can donate coats, do so, and people who need coats pick them up.  Volunteers are needed to help with this life-affirming event.

In East Greenwich, the Winter Coat Exchange will be at St. Luke’s Church, 99 Pierce Street, on Friday, November 29th from 10 am to 2 pm.  The coats can be dropped off or picked up in the auditorium.  There will also be a ‘Drive-thru-Drop-Off’ right on Pierce Street across from the Library at the entrance to the church auditorium.

Anyone needing a coat can come right into the auditorium.  Any extra coats will be donated to the clothing exchange/Thirft Shop at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and to homeless shelters through the Mobile Loaves and Fishes program at St. Luke’s.  Volunteers are needed on the day of the event.  To volunteer or for any questions, contact Jean Ann Guliano at 401-323-5196 or jaw408@aol.com

Coats can also be dropped off and picked up at any YMCA throughout November.  For more information on the statewide effort go to the website HERE.
