Boy Scout Troop 1 Seeks New Scouts!

“We’re Looking for a Few Good Scouts!”

(East Greenwich, RI) – Boy Scout Troop 1 of East Greenwich announces its 2014 recruitment effort. Troop 1 is now welcoming new Boy Scouts as well as those transitioning from Cub Scouts. Troop 1 meets most Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 8:15 at the East Greenwich Veteran Fireman’s Association Hall at 80 Queen Street, East Greenwich.

It is one of the oldest Boy Scout Troops in Rhode Island. Our Winter  meetings begin February 13, 2014.

“We are a high-adventure, Scout led-Troop, with a lot of trips and activities on our calendar,” said Scoutmaster Tony Petito. Among the events already completed this year: a Football game at West Point; biking on Block Island; snowshoeing in New Hampshire; and the annual Turkey Feast campout. We also have community service projects, including the annual “Scouting for Food” drive. Most of these events will repeat in the next calendar year.

Summer camping trips are planned as well.  Troop 1 welcomes new Scouts from East Greenwich, as well as the immediate surrounding cities and towns. The Troop is well known for producing dozens of Eagle Scouts over the years.

“Many young men have taken a big step toward being future leaders, by achieving the rank of Eagle Scout,” said Troop 1 Committee Chairman Tom Mattos. The Troop advanced seven Eagle Scouts in 2013 (photo included).  At least seven more Boy Scouts will be honored for achieving Eagle Scout rank in 2014.
