Community Forum: High-Stakes Standardized Testing

Community Forum:  High-Stakes Standardized Testing
Tuesday, December 10th, 2013
East Greenwich Town Hall
6:30 pm – 8:30 pm

In response to the vigorous statewide debate over the use of the NECAP test as a high school graduation requirement and a broader national debate over high-stakes standardized testing, parents and local youth groups have planned a community forum to discuss the issue.

The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10th at 6:30 pm and will be held at East Greenwich Town Hall in the Council Chambers.

A number of panelists will present views on the issue from a variety of perspectives. Audience members will also have an opportunity to ask questions of the panelists.

Forum co-organizer and moderator, Bob Houghtaling, Director of the East Greenwich Substance Abuse program stated, “This is an important issue affecting all students.  Parents, students and educators have many concerns related to the use of standardized testing and are seeking more dialog on the issue.”

Panelists participating in the forum include:

Rick Richards, former School & District Accountability Specialist, Rhode Island Department of Education

Ron Wolk, former Vice President at Brown University; Founder of Education Week

Anne Mulready, senior attorney, Rhode Island Disability Law Center

Christopher Boie, Teacher, Mathematics, East Greenwich High School

Everyone is welcome to attend. For additional information, please contact Bob Houghtaling at 401-230-2246 or info@egacademyfoundation.org.
