How Does It Work?

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing
workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a
no-pressure atmosphere.
There is no instructor in a Toastmasters
meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback
process is a key part of the program’s success.
Meeting participants also give impromptu
talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop leadership skills.
Members learn communication skills by working
in the Competent Communication manual,
a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic
foundation in public speaking. Advanced manuals expand into speeches for special
occasions, humorous speaking, entertaining speaking and more.
We are offering new opportunities to create speaking clubs
in southern RI. If you are interested in joining a new speaking club in
this area, please contact Eric Holmstedt at ericholms@verizon.net.
There are clubs all over RI and a new club is forming in Coventry now!!!
Here is an example club site in Warwick: http://riat.toastmastersclubs.org
You may visit clubs as often as you want to get to know the Toastmaster experience.
