Boy Scouts will be out in East
Greenwich collecting food for the needy, in the annual “Scouting
for Food” program.
On Saturday morning October 26, Scouts will begin
distributing plastic bags, by attaching them to the door knobs of people’s
homes.
In East Greenwich, both
Troop 1 and Troop 2 Scouts will be helping.

young men can help give back to their community,” said Paul Pontarelli, an
Adult Leader in Troop 1. Scouts earn community service hours which help them
earn rank advancements.
All food is then boxed at the Varnum Armory, and is taken to
the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. “Scouting for Food” is the second largest
food collection drive in the United
States every year. The East
Greenwich collection usually brings in about 10,000 pounds of
