A Thanksgivakah Lesson That Will Not Be Forgotten.

This week, I am so thankful for my 5th Grade Advanced Orchestra which I teach right here in East Greenwich.  It goes to show that string players are definitely smarter than your average "Hakham".

In my orchestra rehearsal, one of the pieces we've been practicing for our upcoming concert on December 17 is called "A Chanukah Festival."  This lead to a discussion of potato latkes, as naturally it would.

I bragged that MY mom makes the best potato latkes this side of the Mississippi.  It just so happened she was making potato latkes for dinner that evening.  I expressed my sorrow and told my orchestra I really could not partake in the potato latke goodness.  I poured my heart out to my students telling them how, as of late, I have been making "healthier," more "adult" choices when it comes to eating.  I really needed to have more of a "well-balanced" meal instead of indulging in the sweet, sweet nectar of the latke.

Let's face it.  Potato latkes are exactly like potato chips.  You can't have just one.  And what's a potato latke without smothering it with a half a quart of sour cream?  Am I right?  Or am I right?

That's when one of my violists chirped and gave me the best lesson of the day, or perhaps my career. He said, "Mrs. Lee, it may not be good for the heart, but it sure is good for the SOUL!!"  L'chayim my friend. L'chayim!!  You are wise beyond your years!

Happy Thanksgivakah to all, and to all a good night!
