Christ Church Looking for Volunteers to Pack Meals

Volunteers needed to help pack 175,000 meals for hungry children.

Christ Church of East Greenwich is looking to round up a few volunteers on Saturday to help pack lunches for hungry children.

The church is hosting a packing party at Advantage Glass, 1560 Elmwood Ave., in Cranston.

The church is looking for nearly 900 people to put together MobilePacks for a campaign by Feed the Starving Children.

Anyone can volunteer to help scoop ingredients and prepare boxes.

The meals, consisting of MannaPack Rice, will be distributed to children by missionaries in more than 70 countries worldwide.

The packing party will run over three, two-hour long sessions.

From their Web site:

Each meal costs only 22 ¢ . We suggest you set aside a quarter every meal you eat . . . and donate your quarters to “Hunger to Hope!” Ask your workmates, classmates, girl scout or boy scout troops, Rotary Club, Lions Club, etc. to join you, both in collecting donations and volunteering on March 22! Everyone can help, whatever your age, wherever you’re from. If 800 people donate to this event, and they each give an average of $50, we will reach our goal! To donate directly, click here. To donate through church, write "H2H" on the memo line of your check.

Volunteers are asked to sign up for a 2 hour shift on March 22. You can sign up as a group, a family or an individual. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. You are asked to wear closed toed shoes and leave your jewelry at home. There will be a short orientation time and then everyone will go to the various stations where volunteers will either scoop ingredients, fill bags, seal bags, label them or move the filled boxes. Volunteers will be asked to clean up their stations at the end of their shift and pray over the boxes they have filled. The Clean Up Crew will begin after 4pm to wash the dishes, sweep, take down tables, load the truck, etc. Community Service Hours for schools & scouts can be obtained for this time. Please bring the proper sheet with you for the FMSC staff to sign.
