The Frozen Clam Offers New Year's Plunge Close To Home

The plunge takes place at the beach at Goddard Park and benefits Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership.

The Frozen Clam New Year's Day plunge is back for its third year at Goddard Park, making it easy indeed for us in East Greenwich to make a splash this Jan. 1. (I speak from experience – plunged for the first time ever at last year's Frozen Clam.)

The plunge, at noon, benefits the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership, a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding quality mentoring services for Rhode Island youth.

This year, the plan is for more pre-plunge tailgating at the beach (starting at 10 a.m.) and an afterparty at Ritrovo, 1050 Main St. (Greenwich Village). The plunge is organized by Ryan McGowan and Laidback Fitness.

If you are interested in participating, you are asked to raise at least $25 in donations. In addition to that bracing cold-water wakeup call, you'll get a "sweet" Frozen Clam t-shirt.
