Potowomut Neighborhood Pitches In To Find Lost Pup

This is from reader Janet Bell, who lives in Potowomut, about an event that took place Tuesday, July 23:

I am writing to you about an event that happened yesterday, and the amazing community that grew from the experience. It is a happy ending, with appreciation for dogs and their tenacious spirit.

Our beagle, Mercy, got out of our yard at 6 p.m. The neighborhood of Potowomut residents, old and young alike, set off on scooters, bicycles, trucks, convertibles and on foot, to find the little beagle.

After over four hours, and now dark, Mercy was not yet found. At 10:20 p.m., a local realtor who had contacted her work associates to help look for the dog, called us.

She spotted the dog heading down our street. Mercy, was running down the road trying to find his way home! I ran outside and the little dog leaped into my arms.... He is safe, sound and still asleep, today.

The news spread quickly about our missing dog, and we were amazed and overwhelmed at the loving kindness of this community. Texts were still flying back and forth this morning, to talk about what a miracle it really was
and how quickly we all joined together.

The greatest miracle of all is that Mercy found his way home.

Just thought I would make you smile today.
