Avengers Pick-Up Pre-Season Football Win Against Chariho

Not able to live without our Avenger football fix this fall -- Stephen and I have decided to continue to photograph for the team despite our son Duncan having gone off to college.  I’m not looking forward to the cold, rain and snow …. but the upside is that we get to be on the sidelines again with a great group of coaches and athletes.  Led again by Coach John George and the rest of the awesome staff, the Avengers may have a tough road ahead after losing some strong senior players from last year.  This year’s Captains are Andrew Miner (quarterback), Bobby Lepre (wide receiver & defensive back), and Carney Crawford (running back & defensive back).

The Avengers kicked things off with a pre-season injury fund 2-quarter game against the Division II Chariho Chargers on Friday night.  EG came on strong with touchdowns by Carney Crawford and Andrei Stancu, as well as two PATs by Brett Estes leaving EG with a 14:0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.  Chariho came back with a touchdown by Tyler Bobbin just minutes into the 2nd quarter with a successful extra point by Salvatore Desantis.   EG responded with another touchdown by Stancu and the extra point from Estes.   Aggressive defense by the Chargers held back Miner and the rest of EG’s offense through the rest of the game.  A final Chariho touchdown by Caleb McQuaide and PAT from Desantis wasn’t enough, leaving the Avengers with a 21:14 win.

I was able to catch Captain Andrew Miner as the team headed off the field.  He felt that the offense was “amazing with three different running backs gaining big yardage”.  He was also positive about the team’s defensive efforts.
