Obituary: Bradford F. Oxnard, Jr., 86

Mr. Oxnard was a pharmacist.


Bradford F. Oxnard, Jr., 86, of East Greenwich died peacefully at home on Nov. 23. He is survived by his loving wife, Louise V. (Murphy) Oxnard with whom he shared 62 wonderful years.

Bradford was born in Providence, R.I., the son of the late Bradford F. Oxnard, Sr., and Estelle (Manchester) Oxnard. He was the brother of Betsy Clarkin of Cranston. He graduated from Classical High School and served in the Merchant Marine before attending Rhode Island College of Pharmacy & Allied Sciences, graduating in 1951.

He was the owner of Oxnard Pharmacy in Harrisville and Chapel Pharmacy in Cumberland before moving to Warwick in 1963 to open Oxnard Pharmacy. Brad and Louise lived for the next 20 years in Buttonwoods, raising their family of five children. They retired to Moss Creek Plantation in Hilton Head Island to enjoy warmer weather and to improve their golf game a bit. They returned home to Rhode Island in 2005.

Bradford was a former member of Warwick Country Club, Sea Pines Golf Club, and Moss Creek Golf Club. He was also a member of the Rhode Island Pharmaceutical Association and a member of the Mayflower Society being a direct descendant of Governor William Bradford.

Bradford was predeceased by his son, Bradford F. Oxnard III. He is survived by his daughters Martha Oxnard and her husband Robert Urbani, Jr.; Paula Oxnard Marcoux and her husband Paul Marcoux; Carol Oxnard; Cyndy Oxnard and her husband Joseph Sanda; his grandchildren Dawn Oxnard, Stephen Marcoccio, Margaret Travis, Nicholas DeFusco, Craig DeFusco, twins Shaun Oxnard and the late Shane Oxnard; his great grandson Owen Bradford Travis. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Route 117) in Warwick on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 8:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter.
