Obituary: Albert E. Harrop, 94, WWII Veteran

Albert E. Harrop, 94, of East Greenwich, died peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Home. He was the loving husband of the late Helen F. (Maher) Harrop. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Walter J. Harrop and Ada L. (Jacques) Harrop.

Mr. Harrop was employed as a Machinist with Federal Products Corp. until his retirement. A member of "the greatest generation," Albert proudly served in the U.S. Army in Company A 256th Engineer Combat Battalion, 65th Division in WWII. He served in Central Europe and the Rhineland, where he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Army of Occupation Medal of Germany and the Victory Medal. Albert enjoyed reading biographies, history books, and going to the beach. 

He leaves two Godchildren, John Shapazian of Cocoa Beach, FL and Natalie Collen of New Hampshire, and a long list of cousins who will miss him dearly. 

A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in the chapel of the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and asked to meet at the Administration Building at 11:15 am prior the service. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
