Obituary: Alice Ann Freeman Violet, 73

Known to many as "Miss Alice," she was dedicated to helping children with special needs.


Alice Ann Freeman Violet, 73, of Ocean Point in Cowesett died Thursday, June 28, at home.

Violet worked for the Warwick School Department for 41 years as a school psychologist, known to many over the years at "Miss Alice." She helped establish many programs for younger children, including Early Intervention, and supported such agencies as Volunteers for Warwick Schools, Child Inc., and R.I. Family Shelter.

She was a communicant of St. Gregory the Great.

She is survived by three children, Mark C. Freeman, Allison M. Herring, and Bethany A. Tracy; a brother, Henry A. "Bud" Violet; a sister, Arlene M. Violet; and four grandchildren.
