Obituary: Alice Theresa (Clarkin) McDonald, 85

Alice Theresa (Clarkin) McDonald, 85, died peacefully on Thursday July 18, at St. Elizabeth Home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Walter “Bud” McDonald. They had been married for 54 years. Alice grew up in Fox Point, Providence, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Casey) Clarkin.

She graduated from St. Xavier's and worked at the Claflin Company before becoming a homemaker and raising eight children. She lived in East Greenwich for over 50 years and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church.

Alice was welcoming, kind and generous to everyone she met and touched many lives. Her door was always open. She truly practiced her Baptismal Promise.

She was the beloved mother of: Mary Alice “Mickey” Stasiuk and her husband Paul of North Kingstown; Sheila A. Dlugolecki and her husband Christopher of Avon, Conn.; Joseph P. McDonald and his wife Deborah of North Providence; Daniel F. McDonald and his wife Diane of Warwick; James K. McDonald of West Warwick; John O. “Jack” McDonald and his wife Susan of East Greenwich; Timothy G. McDonald and his wife Maura of Saunderstown; and Michael P. McDonald and his wife April of Wakefield. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren: Joseph, Anthony and Michael McDonald; Daniel, Jr., Rebecca and Ashley McDonald; Patrick, Mary, Allison and Thomas Stasiuk; Will and Kassie McDonald; Emma and Kelan McDonald; Christopher, Daniel and Jameson Dlugolecki; Kayla, Shealyn and Riley McDonald, a great granddaughter Ava Grace Haders, a sister Margaret Dolan, sister in law Betsey Clarkin and numerous nieces and nephews, including her adored niece Deborah Johnson. She was the sister of late William Clarkin and sister in law of the late Owen Dolan.

The funeral will be Monday, July 22, at 9 a.m. from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, East Greenwich. Calling hours: Sunday, July 21, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Home, Unit 1, One St. Elizabeth Way, East Greenwich, R.I. 02818.
