Obituary: Arthur A. Murray, 84

Arthur A. Murray, 84, passed away Dec. 28, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ruth (Butts) Murray.

Born in Springfield, Ill., he was a son of the late Arthur P. and Nellie (Kenney) Murray. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Susan M. Wilson (Rob) and Lynnet M. Alexander (John). He also leaves a brother, Robert K. Murray.

Arthur was a Navy Korean War veteran who served as a Sea Bee at Quonset Point. He was the manager of the Providence NCR office for many years were he managed the financial sales division. Arthur was an avid sport enthusiast. His 1950 Millikin University basketball team finished second in the NAIA National Championship. He was recognized for his excellence by being inducted into the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame. At Millikin Arthur was also active in his SAE Fraternity. 

Arthur had a passion for giving back to others through his volunteer work at Meals on Wheels, Ronald McDonald House and the First Lutheran Church in East Greenwich.

He will be missed by his family and friends. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 118 Division St., East Greenwich. Donations in his memory may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 45 Gray St., Providence, R.I. 02905 or East Greenwich First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
